The Shadow Play

“There’s a light within us that never leaves and can never be taken from us. It is not contingent upon any external circumstances or what has happened in our lives. Evidence for this is the fact that without a troubling thought on our minds, we naturally and effortlessly become positive — we experience peace, mental health and feel the warmth of the love within. We don’t have to do anything or think anything to make it happen. It is just the way we are built. This is our human consciousness — the light of our world. — quote is from “Shooting Arrows at the Moon” by Phil Kromka. Every experience of life consists of us viewing a thought brought to consciousness. If I think of pizza, I get hungry. If I think of brussels sprouts…not so much. Thought give us the form, the details of life and consciousness provides the energizing light to the form. It is like going to a movie theatre where the projector’s light is like our consciousness and the frames of film are like the various thoughts that cast shadows as they pass through our consciousness. Like the projector’s light, consciousness is bright, warm and steady while, like the frames of film, thoughts vary greatly and pass rapidly by. If we pause our thinking for a moment or two, we in the stillness can begin to feel the peace of consciousness rising from within.

“So, consciousness, also known and experienced as pristine love, peace and happiness, transcends both time and space and provides the stage upon which the drama of thought is enacted. Love, a.k.a. consciousness, is eternal transcending both time and space. It exists in timelessness and therefore in unlimited supply.” — quote is from “Shooting Arrows at the Moon” by Phil Kromka.

“When a movie is shown, we watch, captivated by the images which are made visible by the interaction of the projector’s light with the film. However, none of us leave the theater commenting on how wonderful the projector’s light was. The light is seen as secondary to the images and they are what we watch and which are registered as experiences. We overlook the fact that the light is there and is instrumental in allowing us to see the show. This is also true of consciousness. Consciousness takes a background role to thought the way the projector’s light is overlooked or the way the pages in this book serve as a background to the letters and images on them.” — quote is from “Shooting Arrows at the Moon” by Phil Kromka.

As we come into this world, we have extremely few experiences or thoughts we can think. We’re basically a projector of the light of our consciousness that lights up our lives. We feel the love of our consciousness and are dazzled by the world it lights up.

Because consciousness tends to be overlooked, we innocently attribute our beautiful feelings to be the products of the things of the world.

As time progresses, we acquire more and more thoughts we can entertain. However, adding more detail to each thought is like putting more and more ink on the movie’s film — that makes is harder to see much light and so life loses its luster and happiness seems an infrequent experience.

Since we’ve mistakenly attributed the source of our happiness to be the stuff of the world, we naturally determine to go after it and get more stuff, better stuff, different stuff. But asking the stuff of the world to make us happy is like asking a mirage to give us water. It doesn’t work that way, but if you firmly believe that a mirage SHOULD provide water, that lack of results can be troubling.

We make a similar mistake regarding happiness. We’re looking for it based on a mistaken understanding or belief about its source. Here too, the lack of results can be troubling. Since people are so unsuccessful at becoming happy, they might conclude that it is scarce or rare or in limited supply — they’d better hurry up and get some before it is completely gone. Maybe steal it from others. They might conclude that they are “doing it wrong” and conclude they are losers, get frustrated, depressed or angry, but the fact that they are searching outwardly for something that is and has always been an integral inward component of each of us is the reason they can’t find it.

“Life is not supposed to make us happy. Love and happiness are bundled into our composition. We are the bringers of love and happiness.” — quote is from “Shooting Arrows at the Moon” by Phil Kromka

We still have lives to lead and we’re going to have thoughts involved with our experiences. So, what now? Understanding what I’ve written tends to broaden and brighten our outlook on matters. We find more peace and that mental peace gives us that which we really want as well as providing space for really helpful ideas to appear. “There is no time when the radiant wisdom within is switched off. It is always present, available and true to us. We learn to trust and make use of it. If we consider ourselves to be surfers on the ebb and flow of life’s situations, most of us would have difficulty standing up, let alone getting a good ride due to our frequent auditing of our lives — worrying, reviewing our past, etc. Learning to surf over thoughts, letting them pass, minimizes their significance and maintains our connection to the radiant wisdom within. It changes life from a struggle to uplifting anticipation. In a split second, every moment becomes the past and we’re on to the next one. We don’t have to know what to do, we can just let the knowing come to us. — quote is from “Shooting Arrows at the Moon” by Phil Kromka
